Holiday Fun in Hardin County
If you’ve ever said, “This feels like a Hallmark movie,” there’s a good chance you were standing in Hardin County during Christmas.
December in Hardin County is packed with events. From parades and holiday markets to movie nights and tree lighting, there’s something happening every weekend. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s a great time to get out and enjoy everything the season brings.
Christmas on Main
Christmas on Main is Savannah’s biggest holiday event. It takes place over three weekends this year: December 5 and 6, 12 and 13, and 19 and 20. Each night from 5:00 to 8:30, downtown is filled with lights, music, food, and free activities for all ages including ice skating, arts and crafts, horse and carriage rides, train rides and more!
It all starts with the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 5. Families gather downtown, the lights come on, and just like that, the magic has begun!
Holiday Movies at the Savannah Historic Theatre
During Christmas on Main, the Savannah Historic Theatre will be showing holiday favorites like A Christmas Story, A Christmas Carol, and The Polar Express. Screenings are free and the historic theatre is the cherry on top. It’s a great place to warm up and enjoy a movie with family or friends.
Local Parades
Parades are a big part of Hardin County’s holiday season. Each one brings its own small-town style and plenty of Christmas spirit. You can catch them on these dates:
Pickwick Christmas Parade on December 5
Saltillo Christmas Parade on December 6
Savannah Christmas Parade on December 8
Markets and Holiday Shopping
The Saltillo Christmas Holiday Market happens on December 6 at the Saltillo School Gym. It’s full of handmade gifts, crafts, snacks, and festive drinks. That same weekend, The Graham House is hosting a Handmade Heritage Pop-Up with local vendors, cider, and open house tours in one of the area’s historic homes.
Events for Families
There’s a lot for kids and families to enjoy this year:
- Milk and Cookies with Santa at the Hardin County Library on December 6
- Meet Prancer the reindeer at Tractor Supply in Savannah on December 7
- Christmas in the Park at Pickwick Landing on December 12 and 13 with wagon rides, lights, and stories read by the elves
Outdoor Events and Fundraisers
The Reindeer Run 5K is happening December 13 at Pickwick Landing. It supports the Carl Perkins Center and everyone is encouraged to wear festive gear. Shiloh Falls Golf Club is also hosting the Ugly Christmas Sweater Scramble that day.
Also on December 13, the Christmas Hike Along the River is a 2.8-mile ranger-led walk through the Island Loop Trail near Pickwick Dam. It’s an easy hike and a good way to get outside and enjoy the season.
New Year’s at Pickwick
Pickwick Landing State Park is the place to be on New Year’s Eve. There will be live music, dinner, and a midnight countdown by the water. The next day, you can start the year with the annual First Day Hike, a peaceful walk along the Tennessee River.
